23rd Annual Christmas Concert for Charity

The Catholic University of America celebrated the music of Christmas on Friday, Dec. 2, with the 23rd Annual Christmas Concert for Charity in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The evening concert — sponsored annually by Catholic University and the Basilica, which adjoins the University campus — drew an audience that filled the pews of the Basilica and raised money for A Simple House of Sts. Francis and Alphonsus, a lay missionary apostolate serving the poorest residents of Northwest and Southeast Washington, D.C., and Kansas City, Mo. The co-directors of A Simple House in D.C. and two volunteers of the apostolate in Kansas City attended the concert. All four are Catholic University graduates. Before the concert, the University held its tree lighting celebration. View 'Light the Season 2011' photos. Photos by Matthew Barrick
