Catholic University Reacts to the Election of Pope Francis

When the white smoke billowed out of the Sistine Chapel chimney and bells across campus started ringing, many CUA students converged on the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center. The first-floor food court took on a party atmosphere. A live feed from the Vatican was projected from a computer onto a big screen. Students responded with cheers and shouts when Pope Francis was introduced. The media also converged on the CUA campus, interviewing students, President John Garvey, Father Mark Morozowich, and others. At the end of the day, students gathered in Caldwell Chapel for a Mass of thanksgiving for the new pope, celebrated by Father Marek Stybor, O.F.M. Conv., associate chaplain for faith development.
