School of Music Celebrates Arrival of New Concert Grand Piano

The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music held a dedication and blessing ceremony to mark the arrival of its new nine-foot, 990-pound concert grand piano that arrived from Steinway & Sons in New York City on Sept. 24. Students, faculty, and staff filled Ward Recital Hall to hear remarks from Dean Grayson Wagstaff, President John Garvey, and others. There were also performances by several of the school’s piano students. Also performing was Ivo Kaltchev, head of the school’s piano division, who said, “Finally we can proudly say we have one of the best concert grands in Washington, D.C. And we have an instrument that matches the incredible talent of our students and faculty…” (Photos by Ed Pfueller)
