Founders Day Festivities Mark University's 125th Anniversary

Catholic University celebrated the 125th anniversary of its founding with a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl, archbishop of Washington and chancellor of the University, was the principal celebrant and homilist. Later, the University community gathered at the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center for a Founders Day celebration that included the announcement that the community had completed 352,627 hours of service, far surpassing the goal of 125,000 hours to mark the anniversary. Awards were presented; President John Garvey gave a speech; the alma mater was sung; and the community enjoyed birthday cake and lemonade. (Photos by Ed Pfueller)
